"There's no such thing as monsters."

Jeffrey's father assures him there isn't a monster under his bed.   If that's true, what's making those slurping noises under his bed?  

Even if there is a monster under his bed, what could an eight year old boy do to protect himself?  

Who could help him face the infernal beast lurking under his bed if all the adults are sure there is no such thing as monsters?
